Living in a Republic

I have a notion about how elections work. Candidates qualify to run. Voters get to know them and on election day they vote. One person wins. That is what I thought. 'Leadership Florida' (looks like Government but isn't) and the 'Florida Press Association' tell me I am wrong. They decide.

Someone(s) at those two organizations chose to exclude Maurice Ferre from today's debate among Democratic candidates of Florida for the open U.S. Senate seat. Bad call. Legal recourse was sought and a judge in Miami said go to Orlando for Justice. He was wrong too, the organisations are based in Tallahasee. I looked it up on the web.

I was upset about the decision. I think Maurice is the best man for the job. I know that his public record is one of distinction and long service. I want him to represent me. I get to look good without making an effort and he'll get the job done.

I chose not to call 'Florida Leadership', I have been phished before. I called the 'Florida Press Association' instead with some questions for which I wanted answers. The receptionist treated me with grace, courtesy and professionalism. She listened to my questions, answered where appropriate and directed me to their legal counsel, Sam Morley, as the person best qualified to answer my questions. She also let me know that he was in for the day but away from the office at that moment. The CEO was also there but was not offered as an option. I left a voice mail.

I wanted to know:
1) Who made the call to exclude Maurice Ferre from the debate?
2) Is he/she or are they real journalist(s)?
3) Does the organization receive taxpayer funding? and
4) Do those who made the call have any financial stake in advertising sales?

I haven't gotten an answer back yet but if anyone knows then please post it. The receptionist told me to have a nice day and I wished her one as well. I think I will. I like living in a Republic.
